FAQs

What is included in a Homestead purchase?

Your Homestead purchase includes a pre-engineered, architect-designed floor plan, all necessary documentation for permitting, and a streamlined process from feasibility study through to ready-to-issue permit. You’ll also receive detailed specifications for fire-hardened construction and access to our design team throughout the rebuild journey.

Do the materials come with the purchase?

Materials are not included in the base purchase. However, once your plan is approved, you’ll receive a full materials list tailored to your design, and you’ll have the option to select from pre-curated finishes and upgrade packages.

Who builds my Homestead?

Homesteads are built by independent contractors of your choice. We provide you with detailed construction documents and, if needed, recommendations from our preferred builder network. You are also welcome to bring your own licensed builder to execute the project.

Do you have builder recommendations?

Yes. Once your plan is approved and ready to issue, we can connect you with trusted local builders who are familiar with our catalog and fire-resistant construction methods. You are not required to use them, but they can help streamline the build process.

Do I need to permit my Homestead?

Yes. All Homestead builds require permits. Our team will handle the permitting process for you, including working with city departments to ensure all plans comply with California building codes and wildfire resilience standards. The permitting phase is included in our second step and is designed to make approvals as fast and seamless as possible.

What makes Homestead homes fire-hardened?

Homestead designs meet or exceed IBHS Wildfire Prepared Plus standards and include features such as Class A roof shingles, ember-resistant vents, board and batten and brick cladding, enclosed eaves, and defensible landscaping strategies. These choices significantly reduce fire risk and may qualify for insurance benefits.

Is this only for people rebuilding after a wildfire?

Not exclusively. While many of our clients are rebuilding in fire-prone areas like Altadena, Homestead homes are ideal for any California homeowner looking for a high-design, resilient, and permit-ready home solution.

Does a Homestead have solar panels and fire suppression systems?

Homestead homes have been designed to support both solar panels and fire suppression systems. Site conditions affect how these strategies are implemented, so a case-by-case basis is recommended.
